Free vs. paid: what each option includes
Everything on the public site is free and stays free: the screening test, the information pages and the dyslexia simulator. The subscription pays only for the practice program, never for the test or a report.
The difference between a free account and a subscription is the number of levels. The seven worlds have between 12 and 34 levels each (138 in most reading languages, 156 in English); a free account opens the first 5 of each, and a subscription opens all of them, so the daily plan can keep moving forward.

One subscription for several children
A subscription belongs to the parent's account, not to one child. You can add up to four child profiles, each with its own nickname, age band, reading-games language and progress, and all of them get every level. Siblings do not need separate plans.
Child profiles have no email address and no login. Children play inside your account, and the parent area, where you see progress and change settings, sits behind a short parent check so a child cannot open it by accident.
- Every level in Sound Island, Letter Forest, Word Workshop, Speed Track, Eagle Eye and Memory Cave
- A roughly 10-minute daily plan per child that starts from the focus skill and adapts
- Spaced review of the letters and words each child still finds hard
- A parent area with the last 7 days of progress, a daily goal and a daily time limit
- Works in the browser on a computer, tablet or phone
Which languages the reading games are in
The five reading worlds (Sound Island, Letter Forest, Word Workshop, Speed Track and Story Harbour) are written separately for each language, with their own sounds, word lists, made-up words and short stories, rather than translated. They exist in all six site languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Dutch and Brazilian Portuguese. You choose each child's reading language when you create the profile and can change it later in the parent area, so siblings who learn to read in different languages can share one subscription. Specialist review of the packs is in progress.
The visual and memory worlds, Eagle Eye and Memory Cave, work in every language of the site. The price is the same whichever language your child plays in.
Cancellation and refunds
Cancel anytime in two clicks in the parent area of your dashboard. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period: you keep access until then and are not charged again. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel.
Payments are non-refundable; we do not refund partial periods or unused time. If you were charged twice or charged after cancelling, email [email protected] and we will correct it. In the EEA, the UK and countries with similar rules, the program is digital content supplied immediately after payment: by subscribing you request immediate access and acknowledge that the statutory right of withdrawal ends once access begins, where the law allows this. Rights that cannot be waived under your local consumer law are not affected. The full text is in the cancellation and refund policy and the terms of service.
Why there is no trial period
Many apps offer a 7-day trial that turns into a charge if you forget to cancel. Dyslexia Steps does not. The free levels take its place: 35 levels across all seven worlds, with no card and no end date, so you can watch your child play for as long as you need before deciding.
When you do subscribe, the plan starts and is charged on the day you pay. Because you have already seen the program, we keep payments simple and non-refundable instead of running a trial clock.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Dyslexia Steps test really free?
Yes. The screening test is free, needs no account and always will be. We do not sell paid reports; the subscription only unlocks the practice games.
Is there a trial period?
No. Instead, a free account opens the first 5 levels of every world with no card and no time limit. A paid plan starts, and is charged, when you complete payment.
Can I use one subscription for more than one child?
Yes. One subscription covers up to four child profiles on the same parent account, each with its own plan, language and progress.
What is the difference between the monthly and yearly plan?
Both unlock exactly the same program. The monthly plan costs $9.99 and renews every month; the yearly plan costs $39.99 and renews every year, which works out at about $3.33 a month.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes, in two clicks in the parent area. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for and are not charged again.
Do you give refunds?
Payments are non-refundable, and partial periods are not refunded. If you were charged twice or after cancelling, email [email protected] and we will correct it through Creem. Consumer rights that cannot be waived under your local law are not affected.
Are taxes included in the price?
Prices are in US dollars. Creem, our merchant of record, handles VAT and sales tax where they apply, and the final amount is shown before you pay.
Does a subscription replace support from school or a specialist?
No. Dyslexia Steps is educational software for short practice at home. A child who is struggling with reading also needs support at school, and an assessment by a qualified professional if the difficulties persist.
